Capital Title celebrated veteran Jaqui Sterry this past week at Capital Grill in Plano as she marked 30 years at the company. She has also decided to retire this year. Jaqui was the first employee that Bill hired! This was back when he started a title company and back when he worked as a developer. She was the only employee at the title office at that time. It’s incredible to see how things have changed over the years and now having over 95 offices and over 500 employees across Texas. We sat down with Jaqui and asked her a few questions before she sails into retirement and to reflect back on her many years here.
What was your favorite memory here at Capital Title?
“There are lots of great memories – one that impressed me the most was when Bill came to my father’s funeral; it was not long after I went to work for him so I was very surprised.”
What will you miss the most?
“I will miss the people – there are so many that I dearly love.”
Any words of advice for those starting in the industry today?
“Advise for anyone new in the business: if you love most of what you do, stick with it and you will be successful. If you don’t love most of what you do, you might as well get out now because it doesn’t get easier.
You will probably never love everything about any job, but if you love most of it then you are ahead of the game. And, remember that if you don’t enjoy what you do, it may not be the job but your attitude that you need to evaluate. Sometimes you have to decide to be happy and the easiest way to do that is to treat everyone like they are your best friend because It is easier to be happy at work if you like the people your work with and if they like you.”
Thank you Jaqui for your dedicated and loyal service. You are what makes Capital Title so special and so successful. You will be dearly missed. Congratulations!
